Editorials 2018-2019

After many years as your President, the time has come for me to pass on the torch. It’s been a great honour and pleasure to have had contributed to the development of our beautiful Opera House here in Lausanne.

I’m proud to witness the solid reputation and international notoriety that this lyrical institution has deservingly earned.

It is thanks to the unfaultable quality of the productions and voices, that the diversity of the programming, at times audacious, prevails. This essential dimension has been led by rigorous management and organization, while serving the public and its artists.

The 2018-2019 season begins with "The Soldier’s Tale", a century since its debut here inside the walls that once was known as the TML, this Faustian fable was imagined in Switzerland by Ramuz and Stravinsky.

The Lausanne Opera continues to preserve its core in a sequence of stories and myths set to music through characters like Cinderella, Anna Bolena, Ariane, Orpheus, Eurydice. Mozart, Johann Strauss and Hervé will bring a touch of humour as expected.

My sincere appreciation and best wishes for success goes out to everyone at the theater, whether it be artistic, technical or administrative, for their exemplary dedication.

In closing, I would like to express my gratitude to each and every one of you - spectators, public partners and patrons – and continue to support the radiance that distinguishes our institution.

Eric Vigié, Director of the Opéra de Lausanne

As you’ll discover through our campaign, this new season will be hearty, colourful, diverse, with a "palette" of offerings ranging from German opera to French vaudeville.

Beginning our long season is an exceptional and rare event; the centennial celebration of "The Soldier’s Tale", that was created right here on the stage of our Theater (and nowhere else), following the First World War. This will be the occasion to discover for the very first time the work of the world-renowned collective, La Fura dels Baus and their cinematic feel to this iconic and initiatory piece.

In these next pages you will discover what’s in store for this next season, with well-known and raising artists, discover new talents and international stars coming to Lausanne for the first time (and some even returning).

On behalf of our Theater, I would like to express our gratitude for his dedication and fidelity in our institution, to our President, André Hoffmann, who is completing his term with us this season.

And finally, don’t forget to join us in different towns around the Canton in June and July 2019, to take part in our fifth Lyrical Road! Good times are guaranteed.

We hope you have a great time with us and we nourish your soul with plenty of music and emotions!
