Debut at the Opéra de Lausanne.
The countertenor Yuri Minenko was born in the city of Radomyshl (Zhitomir region, Ukraine). He attended the Radomyshl music school (piano class, 1987 - 1994), Zhitomir Musical College (choir conducting class, 1994 - 1998), Odessa State Musical Academy named after A.V.Nezhdanova (vocal department, 1998 - 2004), and finished a postgraduate course (vocal department, 2004 - 2007, class of Y.Teterya). Since 2007 he has taught in the vocal department of the academy. Yuri Minenko has successfully participated in several important vocal competitions: The All-Ukrainian Competition Voice of Ukraine - laureate (Kiev, Ukraine, 2001), The International Slavic Fest - laureate (Paris, France, 2001), The XL Francisco Vinas International Singing Contest - special prize The Best Countertenor (Barcelona, Spain, 2002), The III International Competition for young vocalists Nightingales Fair named after A. Solovianenko - first prize (Donetsk, Ukraine, 2004), The VI International competition for young opera singers named after N. Rimsky-Korsakov - second prize (St.Petersburg, Russia, 2004), International Singing Contest of Italian Opera Competizione dell' Opera - finalist and award winner (Dresden, Germany, 2007) and was a finalist in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2009. From 1998 to 2003, he has performed extensively in his home city of Kiev including the Kiev National Philharmonic, Kiev National Opera, Ukraine Palace, Octyabrsky Palace, Ukrainian House and has worked with ensembles such as Orchestra of Ukrainian National Opera, Ukrainian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of Radio an Television of Ukraine and Kiev Municipal Chamber Orchestra. His engagements in Russia include solo recitals with the Orchestra of Ekaterina the Great at Peterhoff, Small Hall of St.Petersburg Philharmonic, Hermitage, Yusupovsky Palace and Mariinsky Palace (St. Petersburg). He has also performed solo recitals at the festival Taimyrian Cactus in Norilsk in May 2005. At the end of 2005 Yuri Minenko performed at the School of Dramatic Art and at the Kremlin in Moscow. On February 19 2006 he performed with Orchestra of Ekaterina the Great at Wigmore Hall in London (Great Britain). In December 2009 Yuri Minenko sang Handel’s Messiah with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Poole. Future engagements include Conti’s David with Netherlands Bach Society, Handel Xerxes for New Zealand Opera Auckland and recitals for Mananan International Festival of Music & Arts and Washington Performing Arts Center.
