Stuart Patterson is renowned for his sensitivity and versatility as an artist. Most recent appearances have included the role of Blind in Die Fledermaus for the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Maestro Di Ballo Manon Lescaut in Opéra de Lyon, Monostatos Die Zäuberflöte, La Tasse/La Reinette/Le Vieillard in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges both in Opéra de Lausanne, while current and future engagements include Wozzeck in Marseille, Baron Puck in La Grande-Duchesse de Gerolstein and Falstaff for the Opéra de Lausanne, Le Nez for Aix en Provence, Abate/Incredibile Andrea Chénier for the  Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Schmidt Werther at the Royal Opera House.

Born near Perth, Scotland, Stuart first studied singing in Glasgow. He then studied with David Pollard in London, Claudio Desderi in Florence and latterly, Peggy Bouveret in Paris. He settled in France in 1985. From 1989 to 1996 Stuart was a regular member of the Teatro Verdi di Pisa with roles including Ottavio, Ferrando and Basilio/Curzio. The three Mozart-Da Ponte productions toured all over Italy, conducted by Claudio Desderi. He also sang Lucano/Soldato/Valletto in L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Ulisse in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria and Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola.
 
Other highlights have included Damon Handel's Acis and Galatea, Cavalli's La Didone (conducted by Christophe Rousset, at the Tramway, Glasgow, and at the Opéra Comique, Paris), Pedrillo Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Sempronio in Haydn's Lo Speziale, Pâris in Offenbach's La Belle Hélène, Le Coq in Stravinsky’s Le Renard, the title role in Milhaud’s Le Pauvre Matelot at the Opéra Comique, Sellem The Rake's Progress for Teatro Regio di Torino and Vater Mignon in Penderecki's Die Teufel von Loudun, Harlekin and Soldat in Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Ullmann, Mime in Siegfried at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City (also recorded for television) as well as in Lübeck in 2009.

His debut in Switzerland was at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah (Gleaton), while he has been invited many times to Lausanne for a variety of operas including Gherardo in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Shostakovitch's The Nose, Curzio Le Nozze di Figaro, Commissario Il Signor Bruschino, and in Bern for Battistelli's La Prova d'Orchestra (Sindacalista).

Amongst his recordings are Le Nozze di Figaro conducted by Jean-Claude Malgoire, The Nose conducted by Armin Jordan, and a solo recital recorded in 2009.

Most recently he was guest at Opéra de la Bastille in Orff’s Der Mond, Golem (John Casken) in Nantes and Angers, Mad Woman in Britten’s Curlew River in Besançon, and Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Opéra de Lyon and the Athens Festival.
