Véronique Carrot

Choirmaster

When the curtain goes up, what is left of the work of the Choirmaster in the weeks leading up to the performance? Her mission is to unite sometimes diametrically opposed personalities and tastes, to fuse them into a corps at the service of a work of opera and a scenic creation. This is the essence of the Choirmaster's vocation, even though in many ways her work is carried out in the background. Véronique Carrot adeptly juggles several activities, from the harpsichord or the pianoforte to the direction of the choir of the Opéra de Lausanne. For many years (until 2006), she headed the Chœur de la Cité. In addition, she directs the choir of the Conservatoire pf Geneva. At the core of these enriching activities is always the creation of a vocal palette that fits the rhythmic texture, the harmony or the text of a work. Here and there, bliss is created where voices melt into one another, through some unexplained miracle.
