Elvino and Amina are engaged to be married. However the young man repudiates his betrothed after she is discovered in Rodolfo's bedchamber, where a bout of sleepwalking had innocently led her. The keeper of the inn, in love with Elvino, attempts to take advantage of this in order to try her luck, but Teresa the miller is on the lookout... Another bout of sleepwalking takes place for the whole village to see and convinces Elvino of Amina'sinnocence and love. The wedding finally takes place.
