Audiodescription
Since 2015, a fruitful collaboration has emerged between the Association Écoute Voir and the Opéra de Lausanne. As a result, operas such as L’enfant et les sortilèges (2015), La vie parisienne (2016), Le chanteur de Mexico (2017), Orphée et Eurydice (2019), Le nozze di Figaro (2021), Candide (2022) and Cendrillon (2024) have been audiodescripted.
Audio description allows visually impaired or blind individuals to attend a performance in the best conditions, in an autonomous way.
Before the performance, visually impaired and blind spectators can participate in a tactile tour of the set. A unique opportunity to imagine the scenic space, to discover the volume of an accessory, its shape, its position, to feel the texture of a costume and sometimes even to become familiar with the voices of the characters, if the singers are present. This sensory journey is led by the audio describers.
Spectators are equipped with headphones in which they hear the voice of an audio describer who describes the visual elements of the show between dialogues (set changes, costumes, character entry and exit, facial movements and expressions). The audio describers are placed in a closed control room and they follow the performance live.
