Completed in 1935 but premiered in 1938, Romeo and Juliet is Prokofiev’s first ballet produced upon his return to the Soviet Union.

Prokofiev faithfully weaves Shakespeare’s tragedy into the fabric of this ballet. His melodic and rhythmic inspiration reach the heights which make his music immediately identifiable and able to convey the twists and turns of this legendary tale.

Appreciated by audiences around the world, The Grand Moscow Classical Ballet Theatre has been presenting for forty years historical reconstructions of dance by the most brilliant ballet masters and choreographers, combining modern and classical elements. Also known for its soloists trained by the greatest Bolshoi dancers, the Theatre guarantees the durability of the heritage of traditional ballet schools by integrating their techniques into new creations. Many of the many professional dancers who have been trained in the Theatre have been awarded prizes in the most prestigious international ballet competitions. The star dancers from this Theatre are recognized by the world’s greatest ballet connoisseurs.
