Ariodante

Amongst all of Handel’s works, Ariodante is truly a masterpiece.

A simple and concise intrigue, far from the usual complications of this genre, authentic and touching characters, be they good or the evil Polinesso, one of the most beautiful seria opera airs with Ariodante’s lamento « Scherza infida… » : these are some of the marvels to see and hear in this opera. The title role will be sung for the first time by a counter-tenor, the magnificent Yuriy Minenko, supported by the exceptional Marina Rebeka in a role debut and for the first time at the Opéra de Lausanne. The entire production will come to life under the baton of Diego Fasolis, thanks to his infectious energy.

Libretto anonymous based on Ginevra, principessa di Scozia by Antonio Salvi, written for an opera by Giacomo Antonio Perti (1708), based on L’Orlando furioso by Ludovico Ariosto
First performed at Royal Theatre of Covent Garden, Londres, January, 8, 1735
